What is sea glass?

Sea Glass is glass found on beaches along oceans that has been tumbled and smoothed by the water and sand, creating small pieces of smooth, frosted glass. We find our sea glass while walking the beaches of Buzzard's Bay in Massachusetts. There are a lot of boats and a rocky shore which makes a good recipe for sea glass. Our family has been collecting sea glass for over fourteen years and we have literally tens of thousands of specimens. This site is a photographic catalog of our sea glass collection, our weathered jewels. Kick back and peek around at the photos of sea glass.

July 4, 2007

On a beautiful July 4th, three of us set out for a stroll along the shore and we collected a few pounds of sea glass. All of the sea glass is pictured in containers and strewn on the table in the photo below.

The next step is to dump the containers out and sort through the glass- one container at a time. My daughter and I spent about three hours sorting through the finds while watching the Red Sox game.
